¹¹ It came about ^(A)at the end of forty days and nights that the Lord gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant. ^12 (B)Then the Lord said to me, ‘Arise, go down from here quickly, because your people, whom you brought out of Egypt, have behaved corruptly. They have ^(C)quickly turned aside from the way that I commanded them; they have made a cast metal image for themselves.’ ¹³ The ^(D)Lord also said to ^[a]me, ‘I have seen this people, and indeed, it is a ^[b](E)stubborn people. ^14 (F)Leave Me alone, that I may destroy them and ^(G)wipe out their name from under heaven; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.’

¹⁵ “^(H)So I turned and came down from the mountain while the mountain was burning with fire, and the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands. ¹⁶ And I saw that you had indeed sinned against the Lord your God. You had made for yourselves a cast metal image of a calf; you had quickly turned aside from the way that the Lord had commanded you. ¹⁷ So I took hold of the two tablets and threw them from my two hands, and smashed them to pieces before your eyes! ^18 (I)Then I fell down before the Lord ^(J)like the first time, for forty days and nights; ^(K)I neither ate bread nor drank water, ^(L)because of all your sin which you had committed by doing what was evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger. ¹⁹ For ^(M)I was afraid of the anger and the rage with which the Lord was angry with you so as to destroy you; ^(N)but the Lord listened to me that time as well. ²⁰ The Lord was also angry enough with Aaron to destroy him; so I also prayed for Aaron at the same time. ^21 (O)And I took your ^[c]sinful thing which you had made, the calf, and burned it in the fire and crushed it, grinding it thoroughly until it was as fine as dust; and I threw its dust into the stream that came down from the mountain.

²² “Then at ^(P)Taberah, at ^(Q)Massah, and at ^(R)Kibroth-hattaavah you kept provoking the Lord to anger. ²³ And when the Lord sent you from ^(S)Kadesh-barnea, saying, ‘^(T)Go up and take possession of the land which I have given you,’ you rebelled against the ^[d]command of the Lord your God; ^(U)you neither trusted Him nor listened to His voice. ^24 (V)You have been rebellious toward the Lord since the day I knew you.

²⁵ “^(W)So I fell down before the Lord for the forty days and nights, which I ^[e]did because the Lord said He would destroy you. ^26 (X)And I prayed to the Lord and said, ‘Lord God, do not destroy Your people, Your inheritance, whom You have redeemed through Your greatness, whom You have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand! ²⁷ Remember Your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; do not turn Your attention to the stubbornness of this people, or to their wickedness, or their sin. ²⁸ Otherwise, the people of the land from which You brought us will say, “^(Y)Since the Lord was not able to bring them into the land which He had ^[f]promised them, and since He hated them, He has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness!” ²⁹ Yet they are Your people, and ^(Z)Your inheritance, whom You brought out by Your ^(AA)great power and Your outstretched arm.’

Peter’s Ministry

³² Now as Peter was traveling through all those regions, he also came down to ^(A)the ^[a]saints who lived at ^[b](B)Lydda. ³³ There he found a man named Aeneas who had been bedridden for eight years, ^[c]because he was paralyzed. ³⁴ Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; get up and make your own bed.” Immediately he got up. ³⁵ And all who lived at ^[d](C)Lydda and ^(D)Sharon saw him, and they ^(E)turned to the Lord.

³⁶ Now in ^(F)Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which when translated means ^[e]Dorcas); this woman was ^[f]excelling in acts of kindness and charity which she did habitually. ³⁷ But it happened ^[g]at that time that she became sick and died; and when they had washed her body, they laid it in an ^(G)upstairs room. ³⁸ Since Lydda was near ^(H)Joppa, ^(I)the disciples, having heard that Peter was there, sent two men to him, urging him, “Do not delay in coming to us.” ³⁹ So Peter got ready and went with them. When he arrived, they brought him into the ^(J)room upstairs; and all the ^(K)widows stood beside him, weeping and showing all the ^[h]tunics and garments that Dorcas used to make while she was with them. ⁴⁰ But Peter ^(L)sent them all out and ^(M)knelt down and prayed, and turning to the body, he said, “^(N)Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up. ⁴¹ And he gave her his hand and raised her up; and calling ^(O)the ^[i]saints and ^(P)widows, he presented her alive. ⁴² It became known all over ^(Q)Joppa, and ^(R)many believed in the Lord. ⁴³ And Peter stayed in ^(S)Joppa many days with ^(T)a tanner named Simon.

The Tablets Rewritten

10 “At that time the Lord said to me, ‘^(A)Cut out for yourself two tablets of stone like the first two, and come up to Me on the mountain, and ^(B)make an ^[a]ark of wood for yourself. ² Then ^(C)I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets which you smashed to pieces, and ^(D)you shall put them in the ark.’ ³ So ^(E)I made an ark of acacia wood and ^(F)cut out two tablets of stone like the first two, and I went up on the mountain with the two tablets in my hand. ⁴ Then He wrote on the tablets, like the first writing, ^(G)the Ten ^[b]Commandments ^(H)which the Lord had spoken to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire ^(I)on the day of the assembly; and the Lord gave them to me. ⁵ Then I turned and ^(J)came down from the mountain, and I ^(K)put the tablets in the ark which I had made; ^(L)and they are there, just as the Lord commanded me.”

⁶ (Now the sons of Israel set out from ^[c]Beeroth ^(M)Bene-jaakan to Moserah. ^(N)There Aaron died and there he was buried, and his son Eleazar served as priest in his place. ^7 (O)From there they set out to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of streams of water. ^8 (P)At that time the Lord singled out the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord ^(Q)to serve Him and to bless in His name, until this day. ^9 (R)Therefore, Levi does not have a portion or inheritance with his brothers; the Lord is his inheritance, just as the Lord your God spoke to him.)

¹⁰ “^(S)I, moreover, stayed on the mountain for forty days and forty nights like the first time, and the Lord listened to me that time also; the Lord was not willing to destroy you. ¹¹ Then the Lord said to me, ‘Arise, proceed on your journey ahead of the people, so that they may go in and take possession of the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.’

¹² “^(T)And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to ^[d]fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and ^(U)love Him, and to serve the Lord your God with ^(V)all your heart and with all your soul, ¹³ and to keep the Lord’s commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today for your good? ¹⁴ Behold, ^(W)to the Lord your God belong heaven and the ^[e]highest heavens, ^(X)the earth and all that is in it. ^15 (Y)Yet the Lord set His affection on your fathers, to love them, and He chose their ^[f]descendants after them, you over all the other peoples, as it is this day. ^16 (Z)So circumcise ^[g]your heart, and do not ^(AA)stiffen your neck any longer. ^17 (AB)For the Lord your God is the God of gods and the ^(AC)Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, ^(AD)who does not show partiality, nor ^(AE)take a bribe. ¹⁸ He executes justice for ^(AF)the orphan and the widow, and shows His love for the stranger by giving him food and clothing. ^19 (AG)So show your love for the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. ²⁰ You shall fear the Lord your God; you shall serve Him, and ^(AH)cling to Him, and ^(AI)you shall swear by His name. ²¹ He is ^(AJ)your glory and He is your God, who has done these great and awesome things for you which your eyes have seen. ^22 (AK)Your fathers went down to Egypt seventy persons in all, ^(AL)and now the Lord your God has made you as numerous as the stars of heaven.

Cornelius’ Vision

10 Now there was a man in ^(A)Caesarea named Cornelius, a centurion of what was ^(B)called the Italian ^[a]cohort, ² a devout man and ^(C)one who feared God with all his household, and ^(D)made many charitable contributions to the Jewish people and prayed to God continually. ³ About ^(E)the ^[b]ninth hour of the day he clearly saw ^(F)in a vision ^(G)an angel of God who had just come in and said to him, “Cornelius!” ⁴ And he ^(H)looked at him intently and became terrified, and said, “What is it, lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and charitable gifts ^(I)have ascended ^(J)as a memorial offering before God. ⁵ Now dispatch some men to ^(K)Joppa and send for a man named Simon, who is also called Peter; ⁶ he is staying with a tanner named ^(L)Simon, whose house is by the sea.” ⁷ When the angel who *spoke to him left, he summoned two of his ^[c]servants and a devout soldier from his personal attendants, ⁸ and after he had explained everything to them, he sent them to ^(M)Joppa.

⁹ On the next day, as they were on their way and approaching the city, ^(N)Peter went up on ^(O)the ^[d]housetop about ^[e](P)the sixth hour to pray. ¹⁰ But he became hungry and wanted to eat; but while they were making preparations, he ^(Q)fell into a trance; ¹¹ and he *saw ^(R)the sky opened up, and an ^[f]object like a great sheet coming down, lowered by four corners to the ground, ¹² and on it were all kinds of four-footed animals and ^[g]crawling creatures of the earth and birds of the sky. ¹³ A voice came to him, “Get up, Peter, ^[h]kill and eat!” ¹⁴ But Peter said, “By no means, ^(S)Lord, for ^(T)I have never eaten anything ^[i]unholy and unclean.” ¹⁵ Again a voice came to him a second time, “^(U)What God has cleansed, no longer ^[j]consider unholy.” ¹⁶ This happened three times, and immediately the ^[k]object was taken up into the sky.

¹⁷ Now while Peter was greatly perplexed in ^[l]mind as to what ^(V)the vision which he had seen might ^[m]mean, behold, ^(W)the men who had been sent by Cornelius had asked directions to Simon’s house, and they appeared at the gate; ¹⁸ and calling out, they were asking whether Simon, who was also called Peter, was staying there. ¹⁹ While Peter was reflecting on ^(X)the vision, ^(Y)the Spirit said to him, “Behold, ^[n]three men are looking for you. ²⁰ But get up, go downstairs and ^(Z)accompany them ^[o]without misgivings, for I have sent them Myself.” ²¹ Peter went down to the men and said, “Behold, I am the one you are looking for; what is the reason for which you have come?” ²² They said, “Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous and ^(AA)God-fearing man well spoken of by the entire nation of the Jews, ^(AB)was divinely directed by a ^(AC)holy angel to send for you to come to his house and hear ^[p](AD)a message from you.” ²³ So he invited them in and gave them lodging.

Peter in Caesarea

Now on the next day he got ready and went away with them, and ^(AE)some of ^(AF)the brothers from ^(AG)Joppa accompanied him.
